No More Shooting Of Crows In Petaling Jaya

DATELINE PETPOSITIVE THERAPY CENTRE, PETALING JAYA:

ANIMAL LOVERS in Petaling Jaya will be able to heave a great sigh of relief at last when crow-shooting in the city will be a thing of the past after this weekend.

The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will no longer be adopting measures to shoot birds as a means to cull them for public health.

Instead, MBPJ will be engaging itself on a study trip to the Klang Municipality (MPK) to find out how the local council there has successfully managed to control the population of crows without resorting to shooting the animals.

The decision comes after PJ Mayor Dato Roslan Bin Sakiman announced that the Council will be abandoning its practice of shooting crows because it is cruel to the birds and dangerous to the public.

The Mayor announced this at last month's World Animal Day seminar which was opened by Selangor Exco chief of health YB Dr Xavier Jayakumar in the Petaling Jaya library.

At the seminar, the Mayor in his speech said it was time for the Council to start protecting and being humane to animals under its care as well as human beings.

Residents were, however, upset yesterday and today when they woke up to sounds of gunshots at dawn in Taman Jaya in PJ.

When contacted, MBPJ explained that because everything was already arranged, it was difficult to stop the exercise.

However, the event was not launched by the Mayor nor the press invited, in line with what MBPJ had promised.
