Wheelchairs Important For Mobility Impaired
GIVING
AWAY wheelchairs for the needy is one of the best things one can do for
those who can't walk, especially when struck with a sudden disability
like stroke or heart attacks.
Here is a picture of YB Haniza Talha
and I, in her office in Taman Medan, donating a wheelchair to a poor
couple - the husband of which needed a wheelchair.
Local councils must
continue doing this to help greater mobility for the physically
impaired.

Wheelchair Gives A Boost To Activist In PJ
PETPOSITIVE NEWS
DATELINE TAMAN MEDAN, PETALING JAYA:
WHEELCHAIRS are by far one of the best gifts that one can give to the physically disabled.
Disabled activist Abdul Kadir was understandably all smiles (above, right) when he got his new set of wheels recently by state assemblyperson of Taman Medan Haniza Talha (below, left) in his home.
The wheelchair was presented on the 10th of last month from funds by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to help the poor. It came from monies allocated to MBPJ Councillor Anthony Thanasayan who is also President of PETPOSITIVE.

Weekend View Special 3: Wars waged from wheelchairs - Malaysiakini

The 32nd US president Franklin Delano Roosevelt declared and waged war against Germany, Japan and their allies from his wheelchair.
With this reminder, DAP chairperson Karpal Singh said the remark by a Barisan Nasional MP that the former should ‘act’ as a disabled by keeping his mouth shut is a condemnation and insult to all disabled persons.
karpal singh pc on perak sultan 090508 02Karpal quoted Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) as having said: “As a disabled, he should act like one, but his mouth is not like a disabled.”
Speaking at a press conference in his office in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Karpal said Roosevelt not only directed the Second World War from his wheelchair, “but also spoke his mind on the necessity of American intervention in the Second World War after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour, ultimately defeating the Germans, the Japanese and their allies.”
Equal rights
As such, Bung Mokhtar’s statements not only “demeans his own status as an MP, but also brings disrepute to the august Parliament.”
“The disabled are entitled to equal rights with those who are not. They have a right to speak. Disability should not be taken as a sign of inferiority or weakness,” said Karpal.
He also described as “valiant” the effort by the group of disabled activists in Parliament yesterday to demand Bung Mohtar and Ibrahim Ali (Independent-Pasir Mas) to apologise for their statements referring him as a disabled.
“I am deeply moved ... I thank them for their valiant effort in the defence of the disabled,” said Karpal.

Looking for wheelchairs, walking sticks, etc

CAN YOU HELP PETPOSITIVE?
Do you have a wheelchair that's lying around in your house with no use? What about a walking frame or stick which you've been storing for months?
If they are in a good usuable condition - and they're foldable (so that they can nicely fit into the car) - PETPOSITIVE needs them!
Of course, we'll be speechless by a brand new one, too!
The Malaysian Animal-Assisted Therapy for the Disabled and Elderly Association (Petpositive) is organising an outing for disabled and elderly people at FRIM later this month and these equipment will be extremely useful for our members.
Please donate them to us! They'll also be much appreciated for many of our future events.
Please contact Petpositive by calling/SMS 6-012-220 3146. You may also visit us at our blog here: http://www.petpositive.blogspot.com/ or mailto:petpositive@yahoo.com
If you can't help us at this time with these requests, kindly forward this email to someone you think that might be able to help us.
Thank you! Selamat Hari Raya!
