Disabled To Protest Against "Cruel" JKM In Gombak, Tomorrow

PETPOSITIVE NEWSFLASH!

DATELINE GOMBAK, SELANGOR:

Disabled Malaysians are shocked and outraged that the Social Welfare Department of Malaysia (Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Malaysia - JKMM) has arbitrarily imposed a new nationwide policy requiring yearly renewals for welfare aid for all disabled workers.

The move is especially a cruel blow as many Hindus with disabilities will be unable to celebrate Deepavali on November 2 as their funds of RM300 have been stopped by JKM.

The news also doesn't augur well for how our government views and treats the handicapped in our country with the 2014 Budget due to be announced only a few days away.

Despite several attempts by ILTC Malaysia and PETPOSITIVE to try and knock some sense into JKM's head, they have remained adamant about their policy and refuse to scrap it.

As a result, more than 30 disabled persons who have had their welfare aid suddenly cut - and others who are afraid to be the next victims - are putting together a public protest on JKM's wanton policy.

They will be demonstrating tomorrow Wednesday, 23rd October, in front of the JKM Gombak office in Jalan Batu Caves, Selangor.

The event is organised by PETPOSITIVE and the Independent Living and Training Centre Malaysia, based in Rawang, Selangor.
