PETPOSITIVE NEWSFLASH!
DATELINE BANDAR UTAMA, PETALING JAYA:
THE PETALING JAYA CITY COUNCIL or MBPJ is celebrating International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) this weekend.
The United Nations designated day which falls on December 3 each year will be observed by MBPJ on Saturday December 8th with the same theme: Removing barriers to create and inclusive and accessible society for all.
The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of which Malaysia is a signatory of recognizes that the existence of barriers constitutes a central component of disability.
Under the Convention, disability is an evolving concept that results from the interaction between persons with impairments and attitudinal and environmental barriers that hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.
Selangor Exco YB Dr Xavier Jayakumar will be officiating the event together with MBPJ's Deputy Mayor Puasa M Taib. MBPJ will be reaffirming its commitment to create a barrier-free society and promoting the setting up of disabled committees in all of the states of Selangor.
Everyone is invited to witness this epoch making event. See you there!
