PETPOSITIVE'S Animal-Assisted Therapy "Specialists"

Having a chat before the evaluation. Zhar's eyes fix on cam.
PETPOSITIVE NEWS!

DATELINE KUALA LUMPUR:

PETPOSITIVE is currently looking for animal volunteers (and their humans ) to make visits to disabled and elderly people requiring therapy services from them.

Our first visit - and a very successful one at that - was to the home of Richard and Carol Gascoigne.

Rocky gives a big smile
They are newly-retired residents of Kuala Lumpur since this year, having moved here after more than 20 years working in Singapore.

Moon the rodent expert
They told PET+BLOGSPOT that they are the proud companions of their three dogs: "Chrisme", a five-year old Labrador Retriever that was born on Christmas Day; "Rocky" the Rottweiler, 2 and "New Moon" - a three-year old mutt who is a superb rat-catcher and the Alpha Male of the pack.

All of the dogs love being taken for their brief morning jog and obedience training, which helps keep them calmer during the rest of the day, as well as being more responsive to commands.

Chrisme and Zhar getting acquainted
Chrisme particularly loves it when she can go with the weekly Hash House Harriers running group, where she can bash through the jungle, plantations and streams.

Richard and Carol are both getting involved with various volunteer organisations: a school for children of Myanmar Chin UNHCR refugees to prepare them for life in the USA and now, we are very pleased to say: PETPOSITIVE, an organisation, among others, offers animal assisted therapy for disabled and elderly people in their respective homes.

Richard's daughter in California is active in a group that takes their dogs to visit nursing homes, much to the delight of the residents.

He hopes to transfer some of that programme's expertise to a similar programme with Petpositive, and to participate by taking their own dogs to visit the house-bound.

Their assistance to other organisations is in the works, and they strongly encourage others to give of their time and energy to people and animal welfare organisations.

For this special couple, they find that it enriches their own lives when they can help others who are less fortunate.
