Strays Given A Chance At Life

COMMENT: Finally, we have a group that is looking very credible and responsible in their stray management job. They did a very noble thing by rescuing nearly 30 dogs and are putting them up for adoption. I don't see them talking about Trap, Neuter and Release. This already puts them on the top of the list of a group that wants to do something positive for animals. Syabas Puspa and company.

28 dogs rescued from euthanasia

KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty-eight dogs at the City Hall pound have been given a second chance at life as they were rescued a day before they were to be put to sleep.

The dogs were rescued by Malaysia Independent Animal Rescue (MIAR) yesterday, which now intends to find them new homes.

Puspa Rani, 36, who spearheads MIAR, said its members did not believe in euthanasia.
“We try to give all dogs a chance at life. These dogs will be spayed with help from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and placed in temporary shelters in Seremban, Taman Maluri and Jalan Ipoh.

“Hopefully, we can find good homes for all of them.”

The non-profit volunteer group rescues animals from being put to sleep at overcrowded pounds almost every week.

“Our volunteers are made up of people from all over Malaysia – some from as far as Johor.
“We are dedicated to rescuing and re-homing strays and abused animals,” said Rani.

She said the group received calls from the public daily about animals in distress but did not have the resources to help them all.

“Irresponsible owners who do not spay their pets are at the core of the problem.
“When their pets breed, they resort to dumping puppies and kittens in public places.”
The group was backed by the Malaysian Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association during the rescue mission.

Its chairman K. Balasupramaniam said although the association usually conducts disaster relief, it also helps with animal rescue.

“I believe every human has to be responsible.

“If you have a dog, spay it and take good care of it as it is God’s creation.

“Even animals deserve to live in a better world.”

He said it sickened him to see the way some dogs were treated by their owners.

MIAR is now appealing to the public to come forward and adopt the rescued animals.
