Baby Pelican Successfully Rescued From Shah Alam!

PETPOSITIVE BARKING NEWS!

DATELINE SHAH ALAM:

The injured bird - believed to be a young Pelican by the local authorities - that was spotted by a jogger at Taman Tasik Shah Alam yesterday evening has been successfully rescued!

Thanks to the effort of a kindly gentleman by the name of Member Hj Sirat from Section 8 in the city who handed the traumatised bird moments ago over to Perhilitan, the Government wildlife agency.

A beaming Member Hj Sirat quickly called up PET+BLOGSPOT to declare the good news that the bird was now safe in the hands of the proper authorities.

Member Hj Sirat had rescued the traumatised bird this morning when he came across the animal upon visiting the park.

He then took it home and tried to feed the bird.

According to Member, the young Pelican however refused to eat any of the tasty morsels he offered it - including fish.

Because of the holiday, Member had planned to hand over the bird to Perhilitan the first thing on Wednesday morning.

However, Member was delighted that there were staff in the office today which is walking distance from his house.

The anmal animal lover wasted no time to hand over the injured bird immediately.

The incident was highlighted to PETPOSITIVE by a jogger named only as William. He wanted to know what to do to save the animal.

After consulting with our veterinary adviser Dr Thiba Rajoo, we suggested that he send the animal directly to Zoo Negara if Perhilitan was not avaialble during the holidays.

But the caller was unable to approach the fearful bird himself.

This morning William shared with us the good news that Member Hj Sirat had succeeded to take the bird home.

The news of the bird - now nicknamed "Storky"s temporary rescue received the applauses of many animal lovers on Facebook, including Premilla Ann David, Mary Tan, Jessy Chahal and Alan S Tan.

We are so encouraged to know the fact that there are so many caring Malaysians towards animals out there.

Thank you Member Hj Sirat and William for your kindness. May God bless you both richly for your selflessness in helping animals in our society.

The Dragon Year has certainly brought some good news through the incident with Storky!

Not to detract from the kind act by all concerned in the rescue and care of this bird, I would like to point out that the bird appears to be a juvenile Grey Heron. I am just an amateur bird watcher but I think pelicans are not native to Malaysia.
All the same, well done and I hope it makes a full recovery.

Thanks Jack2964 for your response. Yes, I think you are right about the identity of the bird as a juvenile Grey Heron.

"Pelican" was mentioned by the Perhilitan officers when it was handed over to them.
