VIPs To Visit Disabled Poor

DATELINE KOTA DAMANSARA PETALING JAYA:

PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES in one of the poorest parts of the city here are eagerly looking forward to a special event tomorrow.

Two VIPs from the state and city are scheduled to make a personal visit to Kota Damansara's low-cost flats for the poor.

Selangor State Executive Councillor for a Caring Government and Health Dr Xavier Jayakumar and PJ Mayor Dato Roslan bin Sakiman are dropping by to the PPR flats to launch a support programme for the city's disabled poor residents in section 8.

The VIPs will be launching several recent development efforts to improve the quality of life for flat-dwellers with disabilities.

It includes the construction of a wheelchair ramp, pathways and a home of a wheelchair-bound amputee.

Wheelchairs and white canes will also be presented to members of the disabled community.

The programme coincides with International Day of Persons with Disabilities which falls on December 3 each year.

This year's theme focuses on development.

Tomorrow's event is organised by the Petaling Jaya City Council's Engineering and Planning department.
