Animal Lovers To Protest Against Dog Cruelty By MPKj

A GROUP OF ANIMAL LOVERS will be gathering at the Kajang police station this evening to report on animal cruelty by the local council (MPKj) here.

Led by Puspa Rani, a well-known local animal rescuer, the group wants an immediate cessation to MPKj's practice of keeping stray dogs in their dog-catching lorry for several days before they are put down.

"Denying food and water to the strays and keeping them locked up in a condition where animals have to fight against each other in a desperate attempt to survive is cruelty of the worst kind and must never be tolerated," said Puspa to PET+BLOGSPOT this morning.

According to Puspa, the local PBT has been engaging in such practice for as long as she can remember. Her group will be holding a press conference immediately after the police report.

In a quick response to PET+BLOGSPOT, Canine Advisory Team chairman of both the Petaling Jaya City Council and Majlis Perbandaran Klang said he had met with MPKj officials earlier in the week over the matter. 

Thanasayan who is also PETPOSITIVE President said he had expressed his strong protest over the cruel treatment. 

He was informed that MPKj had already written to the Department of Veterinary Services for advise on how to manage strays in a humane way. He was also told that MPKj would have a meeting as soon as possible to look into the issue.

Thanasayan who had also raised the issue with at least two local councillors of MPKj said that he was told by MPKj that he would be invited for the meeting.
