MBPJ CAT Committee Mulling Over Dog Park Idea

DATELINE SETIA ECO-PARK, SHAH ALAM:

I FOUND MYSELF pleasantly surrounded by hundreds of tail-wagging and prancing pooches with more than 2000 people last Sunday.

The event was a dog carnival here in which the developers are attempting to create a canine park for pet lovers.

I attended the 9am - 5pm occasion in my capacity as chairman of the Canine Advisory Team of the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and the Klang municipality (MPK).
The purpose is to study the feasibility of creating dog friendly parks for canines that contribute so much to our society.
As President of Petpositive I was extremely encouraged to witness pet owners acting as proper guardians for their animals by keeping them on a leash and picking up promptly after them.

A special treat was to see several elderly people in wheelchairs also having a great time with their pets and human family.

Despite their conditions, it was such a joy to see the big smiles on their faces.

Rather than be kept away from the public eye, it was so heart warming to see their grown up children bringing their parents from their homes for an outing.

And they couldn’t seem to resist the temptation to reach out and pet the dogs with their beaming faces.

Although there was some accessibility for wheelchairs in the area, I could see that the developers of the park could look into further improvements to make the area fully friendly to wheelchair users.

Whilst there were disabled toilets in the office and club house areas, I hear plans are underway to make one right at where we were which is great.

The park authorities told PET+BLOGSPOT that the park will be closed for about two months beginning from July.

This, they say, is to look into some logistic issues involving a dog park such as whom to allow in and other matters.

Petpositive was given a charity booth at the event by the Malaysian Kennel Association which was conducting their show at the event.

Our Society shared our booth with PAWS Animal Shelter.

The total amount of donations that Petpositive made at the event was RM139.00. Our booth was marked with an artist who created portraits of pets and their owners and a guard dog training session with a black German Shepherd by "sivakenn".
