Why Are Human Beings So Cruel?

Recall this atrocious picture that grabbed our attention not long ago for the wrong reason?

Well, we're bringing it up here again today for the sake of one of our strong supporter Eugene Lee.

He wanted to catch up on a follow-up report on The Malay Mail that even we at PET+BLOGSPOT missed!

Here it is, Eugene - and all you folks - complete with the comments that followed in the newspaper that describes itself as "the paper that cares."

What is it about us human beings that can sometimes make us commit the most ignoble of acts to some of the most innocent and defenseless creatures?

How could we even think of deriving "pleasure" from such acts?

It's been said that US intelligence has conclusively discovered a link between those that commit animal cruelty and other heinous acts.

This is really scary, especially when they are committed by young and older kids.

Read on folks; and don't forget to let us know your thoughts on this at the COMMENTS section at the bottom of this page.

Puppy torture photo brings out animal lovers' anger

Animal abuse
HEARTLESS: The picture of two individuals posing with a hanged puppy has stirred the passions of animal rights' activists

KUALA LUMPUR: More than a week has passed since the gruesome photo of a hanged puppy spread like wildfire online and animal rights groups are wondering when cops will get to the bottom of the matter.

Enraged by the photo spread widely via email, Malaysian Animal Rights Society president N. Surendran said he had lodged a report at the Brickfields police station last weekend.

He described it as one of the worst cases of animal abuse he had ever seen in Malaysia.

The photo, which has been posted on several blogs and social networking sites, showed two individuals gesturing with an obscene one-finger salute while one was holding a hanged puppy.

Expressing hope the culprits are caught quickly, Surendran said: “How anyone can do this to a puppy which can’t defend itself is beyond me. These two are criminals and mentally unstable. I hope the police will throw the book at them so they can be made an example of.”

Surendran said he might organise a public gathering to push for results.

“It might be too late for that puppy. But it will send out a message to deter crazed individuals from taking part in such torture.

“This sort of behaviour is bad for the country's image and will get worse if the authorities let it slide.”

Surendran said his lawyer friend, Sasha Lyna Abdul Latif, forwarded the picture to him after she stumbled upon it through the Twitter social networking site.

“I found the pictures when Lisa Surihani re-tweeted it on her Twitter account,” Sasha said.

Actress Lisa Surihani told The Malay Mail she re-tweeted the photo on her account but did not know the persons in the picture.

"My intentions were to highlight the cruelty towards animals portrayed by the two individuals. I am strongly against animal cruelty."

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Selangor said they were doing their best to uncover the identity of the individuals in the photo.

“It is not easy as it came from an online source. We are doing what we can and hope the public will be patient.”

ANIMAL cruelty is no stranger to communities across the globe. Here are a few that made headlines this year:

Aug 12: A family's pet lamb is stolen by thugs in England. The lamb, named Lily, is abducted in the middle of the night and butchered on the street, where she is discovered the following morning. The culprits are still at large.

Sept 20: Briton Mary Bale throws a cat into a wheelie bin where it is trapped for 15 hours before being discovered by its owner. Her actions were caught on CCTV. She is fined £250 (RM1,220).

Sept 29: Pig farmer Keith Barnett admits to seven charges of animal cruelty after it was found that he neglected his pigs, leaving them with no food or water, to the point where they began eating each other. He was banned from keeping pigs and fined £880 (RM4,290).

Saw this picture uncensored somewhere some time ago. They are obviously Westerners, just don't know why the paper says it's from here

These mentally sick individuals will evolve into murderers in the future if they are not stopped now. Many of the murderers/serial killers starts by torturing and killing animals before progressing to humans. The authority and the public must work together to report and have these individuals arrested and charged. We can see their face as such those people out there who know who they are must do their civic duty and report them to the police.

Well said my Moslem friend. No animals are inherently dirty because God do not create dirty things. Dogs have served mankind... in many ways. Every living thing has an ecological function.... that is the wisdom of the Almighty. Who are we as mere mortal men to play God?

the culprit should be charged immediately to send the correct message, abusing animals is a CRIME !!!

These sickos belong to a mental ward. Do it before they decide to do the same to a child somewhere.

to the moderator in response to simon tee, this is not a police case, so why hide the identities? unless of course you think it should be a police case. and please note that the police are not even bothered with this. so get off your high and albeit misguided horse and print it like it is a news story and not a police case. show the guys faces. or otherwise, you should blur the faces of everyone in your website.

How will your love one feel if someone will to dig up your body and hang them like these 2 kids? Whether the puppy had die or not, only MENTALLY SICK people will do this and another Mentally Constraint human to support them.

Why do you censor the eyes if the public want them caught?

Moderator: Because the alleged culprits have yet to be charged in court, therefore their identities cannot be revealed. This is what The Paper That Cares practices.

Give it a year for Karma. We will eventually read about a freak accident in the paper where those 2 boys die in a hanging.

Unless from a video, how would you know it's not a dead puppy already?

Submitted by Boss Coffee on Monday, October 25th, 2010.
um. you don't get it. if it's dead, it wouldn't matter much unless they kill it in an unethical way. if it's alive, it's called animal cruelty.

Submitted by anon. on Tuesday, October 26th, 2010.
You just said what I said - it doesn't matter if it's dead already and because you can't tell if it's alive or not, this picture cannot be your only source of truth to determine if the puppy was mistreated.

Submitted by Boss Coffee on Tuesday, October 26th, 2010.
That the puppy may already be dead... Yes, it may be true, but the premise of them posing with the puppy (hanged) and flipping the middle finger at the camera only implies that they can do what they want and flip you off and you are not able to do anything about it. It is the notion and message they are sending. Wake up, you don't need someone to beat you with a hammer on your head before you realised such things. This is an outrage and I hope those 2 get their dues many folds!

Is displaying attitude now a crime?
