KUALA LUMPUR: Animal rights groups are furious over a photograph showing two men abusing a puppy.

The photograph, which has been widely distributed over the Internet, shows two men hanging a puppy with string. Both men were showing an obscene gesture with their fingers.
Malaysian Animal Rights Society president N. Surendran said the photograph was one of the worst cases of animal abuse he had seen.

"The fact that they were posing with the puppy shows they are confident no action will be taken against them," he said after lodging a report at the Brickfields district police headquarters here.

He took a swipe at the authorities, like the Department of Veterinary Services, saying they were not doing enough to protect animals.

Surendran said he hoped the police would take the matter seriously and charge the two for their cruel act.

Pet Positive president Anthony Siva Balan Thanayasan called the act "wicked and evil" and said he was shocked and upset over the photograph.

"We have been working hard towards protecting animal rights and to see it breached like this is very sad."

It was learnt that the photograph came to light after a lawyer saw it on a well-known actress' Twitter account.

Malaysian Animal Welfare Society president Shenaaz Khan said police had no excuse but to nail the culprits for the "barbaric" act since their faces were visible in the photograph.

Also present were activists from Independent Living & Training Centre and Lawyers for Liberty.

Meanwhile, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid confirmed the report had been lodged.

Outrage over picture of two youths torturing pup

KUALA LUMPUR: An online picture showing two youths hanging a puppy with a thin rope has caused an uproar among animal lovers.

Malaysian Animal Rights Society president N. Surendran, along with members from other animal rights groups, yesterday lodged a police report against the duo for animal cruelty.

“It is one of the worst cases of animal cruelty I have seen. The way they posed with the puppy also indicates that they think their actions have no consequences,” he said after lodging a report at the Brickfields police headquarters yesterday.

The picture, which shows the two youths making obscene hand gestures while torturing the puppy, has been circulating on popular networking websites recently.

Malaysian Animal Welfare Society president Shenaaz Khan said the police should act fast and bring the culprits to justice.

“There should be no excuse as their faces are visible,” he added.

Pet Positive president Anthony Siva Balan Thanayasan expressed shock over the animal torture, calling the act “wicked and evil”.

The case had been forwarded to the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

Thanks De-fun-da-mental for sharing us your thoughts.

It is most encouraging for anyone who thinks otherwise.

No religion on Earth would encourage or condone inflicting cruelty to one of God's creatures - especially Islam.

Maggie, I agree with you. Allowing people to get away scot-free will only encourage them to do it again and worse.

Andy, you hit the nail on the head when you said God is watching everything and justice will be served so let anyone beware of this.

Dear Sir,

Regarding on the following matter - http://petpositive.blogspot.com/2010/10/youths-hang-puppy-in-defiance.html

As far as I can see, there are a total of/at least 5 pictures from the dog abused series, and it have been circulating on the internet since 2007.

Have you noticed something strange on the photo, hint: can you see there is a black strip on the left top corner of the picture? Obviously this is a doctored image, the actual photo was watermarked by (a) website where it was first posted on, ie: (Name & references deleted by PET+BLOGSPOT for reasons of graphic content)

My guest of the possible source: Turkey

Thus, you might have to close the case and report to PETA/INTERPOL instead ^^

Animals have equal rights with humans to live. They belong to same ecosystem of nature to which we belong. They are part of nature like us. We don't own their lives. Anything incorrect against animals must be avoided.
