Thank you for allowing me to be a part of a historic event

DATELINE SUBANG JAYA:

MORE THAN SEVENTY eager participants came as early as 8.30am to register themselves in a special workshop on dogs at the headquarters of the Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya yesterday.

The event, put together by the Canine Advisory Team or CAT from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) was a first-ever dog workshop involving all 12-local councils in Selangor to tackle the issue of dogs both effectively and humanely in the state.

The occasion was launched by a top Selangor Exco Dr Xavier Jayakumar. The speakers were the Deputy Director of the Department of Veterinary Services in Malaysia, a representative of health from MPSJ and Petpositive's Shenaaz Khan.

Here is a first report by a young student Nicholas Foo who took part in the discussions:

"Today, I was privileged enough to be given the opportunity to be a part of  a historic events that centres around the right of animals, domestic or strayed.

"I’m referring to the Bengkel Pengurusan Haiwan Terbiar & Peliharaan Yang Efektif Di Selangor held at the Laman Kenanga MPSJ. The program was spear headed by Canine Advisory Team, collaborating with MPSJ.

"Not only were many issues clarified today, regarding the problems beard by both shoulders, the state government and NGOs alike. A positive point did emerge from their discussion, that both parties are willing to work together to resolve the problem.

"Expertise from all fields were present to put forward their thoughts and collectively mustered out  rough idea about what must be done.

"Both the panel and the floor were very involved in the discussion, emotionally involving themselves but maintaining a sense of respect to the people they were addressing.

"NGOs such as Petpositive and SPCA were very keen in enquiring about the government’s future plans when it comes to animal rights. Bodies such as the Board of Veterinary Services Malaysia were more than happy to explain their dilemma and justify their course of actions.

"In the end, the entire program was a huge success. All parties benefited from the program and walked out the doors with their heads high.

"They knew that they have further laid the path on how to satisfy all parties. I can only smile to myself knowing I had not missed an opportunity to be a part of this historic event.

"Thank you PETPOSITIVE for this special chance to be able to have been there."
