Animal Welfare and Rights Must Continue In Local Councils

BESIDES being Chairman of the Disability Technical Monthly
Meetings at the Petaling Jaya City Council, I also chaired the Canine Advisory Team groups in MBPJ and MPK.

Set up about six months after I became councillor, we met at least once a month to look into animal welfare issues in the local council.

We discovered that coming together to talk about how to tackle stray animal issues to promoting responsible pet ownership programmes were far more effective than only just performing fire-fighting tasks such as catching dogs and fining owners.

Our meetings got so popular that we soon had the other 11 councils from Selangor wanting to join us. We even had historic visits from Penang and Ipoh to learn about some of our magic.

It is imperative that this meetings go on, especially with the growing awareness of residents about animal welfare and cruelty issues. Here is one of our last meetings preparing for World Animal Day, celebrated for the first time in history by MBPJ and DBKL in 2013.

It was a thumping success.
