PETALING JAYA (Dec 6): A new councillor that is OKU (special need persons) needs to be appointed if the sole representative at Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Anthony Thanasayan is to be dropped for next year.

"Perhaps another special needs person should be considered if Anthony is not considered or if his term is up," said Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) councillor Chang Kim Loong.

He also feels that a special needs person would have better understanding of the problems and issues faced by their community.

"I cannot pretend to know what they feel, so it is better for them to have a representative to talk on their issues and problems," he said when met at the Charity Fun D-Bazaar today.

Chang also expressed his hope for MPSJ to have a OKU councillor to fight for their privileges and rights.

"We do not have a OKU representative, so as councillors we bring up issues of necessary ramps and facilities for OKU but I think that is not enough. A OKU representative will be in a better position to know exactly what they want," he added.

Another MBPJ councillor, Tony Cheong Siew Thong however expressed his shock as he did not hear of any official news that several prominent councillors would be dropped.

"So far only DAP has sent a list of councillors for next year, PKR and PAS have not done so. By right we have to collect all three party's list before making any decision," he said.

Tony Cheong also said that it is up to the state government to decide whether they need a OKU representative but as a local councillor personally however he does not feel there is a need.

"For me I am a normal person but I can work very well with the OKU community, if you really want to help the community you can pay attention and listen to them to understand exactly what they need," said the councillor for SS2,Petaling Jaya.

Charity Fun D Bazaar is held at SStwo mall in partnership with G Prop Marketing & Management Sdn Bhd with the support of MBPJ and MPSJ.

The bazaar is held as a platform for the under-priviledged, disable and less fortunate community, to introduce and sell their products and services to the public.

" The objective of this event is to help the needy earn an extra income whilst helping to boost their self-esteem by being independent and self-reliant," said managing director of G Prop Ho Sweet Fun.
Booths by many charity organisations as well as service booths by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia, MBPJ and the National House Buyers Association can be found every weekend from Dec 8 to Jan 26.
