PETALING JAYA: A dispute between a fast food franchise and a disabled public official came to an end Wednesday with the former issuing an apology and promising to look into providing staff training to be more disabled-friendly.
On Monday, a blog post claimed that a fast food outlet franchise in a popular mall in Kuala Lumpur had turned away the wheelchair-bound official because it was their policy not to allow wheelchairs into the premises.
The restaurant denied the allegations, saying that the incident was a misunderstanding and it did not discriminate against its customers in any way.
According to the official, several ideas were exchanged during the meeting with Pizza Hut Malaysia head Low Kang Moon.
"I put forward several ideas to make their restaurants more disabled-friendly and they agreed to look into it.
"I'm hoping to see a positive outcome from this incident," he said, adding that he had offered his expertise in the matters of disabled for free.
Meanwhile, Low said that he was happy that the company was given the opportunity to explain the situation and extended their sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused.
"At the same time, we also took his suggestion to retrain our staff to be more sensitive towards disabled customers.
"Furthermore, he has volunteered to work together with us in further educating our staff on disabled-friendly restaurants.
"We intend to incorporate these into our training modules to ensure that we provide excellent service to every customer," Low said in a statement Wednesday.
