Pizza Hut Malaysia Says Sorry; Extends Hand To Work On Non Discrimination Of Disabled

AMICABLE AND FRUITFUL MEETING BETWEEN PIZZA HUT MALAYSIA AND ANTHONY THANASAYAN

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 October 2013 – Pizza Hut Malaysia had an amicable and fruitful meeting today with Anthony Thanasayan, a PJ Councillor who is also an activist for the special needs community, with a mutual understanding to resolve the recent incident between Anthony and Pizza Hut Mid Valley staff.

The meeting took place at Cititel Mid Valley this morning and was attended by Low Kang Moon, Head of Pizza Hut Malaysia along with representatives from both parties. In the meeting, Low reiterated that there is no such policy denying customers in wheelchairs to enter Pizza Hut outlets.

 “We are happy that we were given the opportunity to personally explain to Anthony and extend our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience that had occurred between Anthony and our Pizza Hut staff. At the same time we also took Anthony’s suggestions to retrain our staff to be more sensitive towards the disabled customers.

Furthermore, Anthony has volunteered to work together with Pizza Hut in further educating our staff on disabled friendly restaurants. We intend to incorporate these into our training modules to ensure that we provide excellent service to every customer. All our staff will be re-trained as we build our customer service to be among the best in Malaysia. We appreciate Anthony’s feedback on this subject”, said Low in a statement here today.

In his response, Anthony said, “I am satisfied with Pizza Hut’s prompt action in resolving this matter. I would be more than happy to assist Pizza Hut in educating their staff to be more sensitive towards special needs customers”.
