Disabled Make Their Demands

PETPOSITIVE NEWSFLASH!

DATELINE GOMBAK, SELANGOR:

ABOUT 50 Disabled Malaysians gathered at the  Social Welfare Department of Malaysia (Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Malaysia - JKMM) to express their shock and outrage over the department's new nationwide policy for all disabled workers.

Organised by PETPOSITIVE and the Independent Living and Training Centre Malaysia, the group - mostly in wheelchairs - demanded that the Welfare Department scrap their policy of yearly reapplication of disabled workers' allowances at once.

ILTC president G Francis Siva said he was giving the Welfare Department one week to comply with the disabled workers' demands or the group will take the matter up with the Minister for Welfare.
