MBPJ Choking And Starving Strays To Death In Their Van?

aNt's aNgle:

The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is being accused by a local animal group for mistreating two puppies caught by their dogcatchers last month.

Two stray pups, which were apparently "taking care" of by "dog-feeders", were said to have been caught by MBPJ on April 23rd.

The Facebook of the NGO claimed that instead of the animals being transported and handed over straight to PAWS animal shelter on the same day, the feeders only discovered the puppies three days later when "MBPJ brought in some dogs on Friday."

The NGO said the feeders were unable to visit the Shelter the next day as it was closed. It went on further to claim that even "when one of them (visited PAWS) on Thursday, no dogs had been delivered to PAWS by MBPJ".

Apparently the pups consequently died of distemper, one on May 16 and the other on May 17 this month.

The page went on to question "Where were the dogs kept for two
days and three nights?" The NGO demanded to know if MBPJ had "kept (the animals) locked up in the van?"

"Were they given food and water? How did they contract distemper – is the air-conditioned MBPJ van not disinfected? Was the distemper caused by immense trauma? These are the questions MBPJ has to answer now," the NGO posted.

As Chairman of MBPJ's Canine Advisory Team (CAT) I checked the facts with the Council's dog-catching team

Here are the facts from the distortions:

  1. MBPJ dogcatchers did make their rounds on April 23rd and ALL the dogs caught were PROMPTLY HANDED OVER to PAWS by noon. At no time did MBPJ keep any animals in their van or anywhere else overnight.
  2. MBPJ made its next trip to PAWS with stray dogs and cats on Thursday, April 25, dispelling the claims of feeders that MBPJ did not make a visit to PAWS. A counter check with PAWS and the receipts given to MBPJ by them for the animals (MBPJ pays PAWS RM20 for all animals handed over to the society) will confirm this.
  3. No trip was made to PAWS on Friday because there were no dog-catching exercise conducted on that day. This dispels the feeders' claims again that dogs were brought in by MBPJ on Friday when no such thing took place.
