BN's Kepala Batas Could Fall To PAS

BN stronghold of Kepala Batas could fall to PAS

By Opalyn Mok
KEPALA BATAS, April 29 — Young voters plus a sense of disaffection with the Barisan Nasional candidates could just swing Kepala Batas to PAS.

PAS candidates Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, for the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat, and Rosidi Hussain, for the Penaga state seat, are taking advantage of the situation on the ground and making some steady gains in the BN stronghold.

“The splinter groups within BN here, due to disappointment with the chosen candidates, have somehow given us the space to make an impact here,” they said.

The support for PAS was never more apparent than at a rally in Penaga last night that saw more than 3,000 people turning up to listen to party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

It was held in an open space right next to the Penaga BN election operations centre; BN flags were everywhere including a BN balloon that hovered conspicuously above the grounds.

“Everyone wants to listen to Tok Guru to hear what he has to say and I’m sure some of them are former Umno supporters,” said a PAS member at the rally.

Even the PAS members were surprised by the turnout as just hours before, Hadi had made an appearance at another ceramah in Kubang Semang, a PR stronghold area, but the turnout was not as massive.
Only about 500 people had turned up at the Kubang Semang ceramah.

At both ceramahs, Hadi spoke about PAS’s role in the PR coalition and how each of the three component parties — PAS, the DAP and PKR — complements each other.
