PET+NEWSFLASH: Disabled To Protest DBKL's Lack Of Care For The Handicapped Tomorrow

PETPOSITIVE NEWSFLASH!

DATELINE KUALA LUMPUR

SEVERAL DOZEN PEOPLE IN WHEELCHAIRS will be gathering at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) at 10.30am on Wednesday, June 7, to express their disapproval and disgust as to how the local government here has been ignoring the needs of a wheelchair user wanting a ground floor room in a flat built for the poor.

V Karuppanan, 60, who contracted poliomyelitis during his childhood, received a letter from the authorities approving his request in early 2011.

However, no action has been taken since then.

This has forced the disabled man - a toilet cleaner at KTMB in Subang to sleep every day in his car in the car park of the flat in Taman Intan Baiduri in Selayang, KL.

"We are also very disappointed with the Welfare Department, which despite us approaching them for help, has done nothing to get our member a decent place to stay," said Francis Siva, president of Independent Living and Training Centre in Rawang, Selangor to PET+BLOGSPOT.

"We are holding this media event to bring urgent attention to his plight," added Francis who is also a committee member of PETPOSITIVE.

V Karuppanan is also a member of Petpositive. Petpositive will also be present at tomorrow's press conference.
