Anti-Gay Campaigns Do Not Belong In Schools

Anti-gay campaigns do not belong in schools
Dear government of Malaysia,

I read an article in mStar lately and I am deeply saddened and furious that you have allowed Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) to host anti-gay campaigns in government schools.

This is only one of the many anti-gay campaigns that you have allowed.

To disrespect other people just because they are in the minority is not only despicable but also shows just how hypocritical you are.

How so? One of your values of 1Malaysia is acceptance.

I see no acceptance but rather, plain discrimination and quite frankly, a violation of human rights.

This campaign to ‘prevent homosexuality from multiplying in society' will not work simply because one is either homosexual or not just as how one is either Chinese or not and I'm sure you would have known this had you done your research.

What it will do is allow students to continue or start bullying/tormenting/taunting the LGBT students in their schools.

I don't need to remind you that your duty is not to pave the way for harm to be done onto your citizens but to protect them.

Malaysians are not stupid.

Corruption, nepotism and bribery. These are things that need to be fixed. Fix those before wasting resources to try to fix something that doesn't need fixing.

You shouldn't be educating people that homosexuality is wrong but rather that homophobia is.

Think of the young LGBT students who are out there.

Think about how they will feel when they hear that who they are is wrong, not accepted by society and that they should change.

I do not wish to speculate but suicide is a real outcome.

I understand that you might believe that homosexuality is wrong but your beliefs and principles are not necessarily shared by your citizens.

You should not be allowing discrimination and violation of human rights but rather stand against them.

Malaysia's society has grown so much to become more accepting and I don't understand why you aren't celebrating that fact but rather, trying to reverse this positive growth.

Don't push Malaysia back into the dark ages, let Malaysia flourish.

Let Malaysia have national unity.

Stop this nonsense.
