Highlights Of Press Conference In Support For Thanasayan

PETPOSITIVE NEWS!

DATELINE SHAH ALAM, SELANGOR:

LAST WEEK two nongovernmental organisations, the Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) and Warga OKU PJ held a vicious press conference of lies and distortions against Petaling Jaya City Councillor (MBPJ) Anthony SB Thanasayan.

The cheap publicity stunt took place at a hotel in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

The timing of the event spoke volumes.

NGOs Talking To Reporters
It was held at about the same time that MBPJ councillors - including Thanasayan - was due to be sworn in.

The swearing in was subsequently called off.

Thanasayan is currently being investigated for the complaints made against him.

It is not known if the popular wheelchair activist will be reappointed to his position.

Thanasayan, meanwhile, has rubbished the attacks against him.

"The so-called 'Warga OKU PJ' which no one in the disability field has heard of until now claiming that nothing has been done for the disabled in my tenure is ridiculous," says Thanasayan.

"If that were true, how was MBPJ able to win not one, but two prestigious awards for disability work from the State and the Federal Government since I was councillor?" He adds.

Thanasayan also went on to question the credentials of the so-called PJ disabled group.

"When were they registered and how many PJ residents do they have?" he asks. "How is it that I do not know about them and have not been invited to be a member as I am a PJ resident?

"More importantly, what have they done for the scores of poor disabled people in the city that MBPJ has reached out to, who basically have nothing - and did they receive a mandate from their 'members' to hold the press conference?"

As for MDDB, Thanasayan says the animal NGO has "good reason" to try and stop him from becoming a councillor.

"It's director Wani Muthiah who is also a senior journalist with The Star - has been making ludicrous statements about animal welfare.

"She has been trying to demonise local councils as if they are all dog-haters and I've obviously become a major threat to her campaign of disinformation and lies  against local councils through my pointing out of some of the good they are trying to do to help strays in our environment."

Thanasayan says he believes the press conference against him was masterminded by Muthiah and wheelchair-bound Bathmavathi Krishnan.

The latter has been eyeing to take over his position as councillor.

In the meantime, here are highlights of the press conference held on Monday at the State Secretariat Building in Shah Alam in support of Thanasayan.

Francis Siva, President of the Independent Living and Training Centre in Rawang, Selangor, a national group who has scores of members with disabilities in PJ starts the ball rolling.

He is accompanied by Chong Tuck Meng from Persatuan Warga Istimewa and Rehabilitasi Anggota K9, Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Perwira K9 Malaysia:
