PETPOSITIVE NEWS!
DATELINE PETALING JAYA:
The Democratic Action Party's Bukit Gasing assemblyman Edward Lee is being buried in Klang, Selangor today.
A funeral service held for Lee this morning at the Bible College of Malaysia in Jalan Gasing saw about 500 people paying their last respects to him.
I paid my respects to him yesterday in his home in Section 5, PJ.
I went along with Petaling Jaya City Councillors Chan Chee Kong and Tan Fuie Koh. We met Lee's three sons who clearly were very much with their father and his achievments.
Lee made at least two visits to our Petpositive Therapy Centre in Jalan Carey shortly after he became the state assemblyman for the area.
He also donated to Our Society.
Lee, 61, was diagnosed with with colon cancer in 2009. "He was a fighted to the very end," remarked the church pastor who spoke at his funeral.
According to The Malaysian Insider, Lee was a member in the state Special Select Committee on Competency Accountability and Transparency (Selcat).
Before he made his foray into politics, he was well known as a vocal champion of local issues.
He was a former president of the All Petaling Jaya Residents’ Association Coalition and ex- head of the Section 5 residents association.
In 1999, he started the Save Bukit Gasing campaign with some neighbours to protect the few green lungs left in Petaling Jaya against further development and erosion.
He won the Bukit Gasing state seat under the Petaling Jaya Selatan parliamentary constituency in the landmark 12th general election three years ago, beating the incumbent Gerakan assemblyman and then state executive councillor Datuk Dr Lim Thuang Seng by a whopping 8,812-vote majority.
Lee polled 15,735 votes while Lim obtained 6,923.
