MPKj To Set Up Canine Committee

DATELINE KAJANG SELANGOR:

PETPOSITIVE BARKING NEWS!

THE KAJANG Municipal Council (MPKj) will be setting up a canine concern committee to look into dog issues.

Fashioned after the Canine Advisory Teams (CAT) of the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and the Klang municipality (MPK), the committee is expected to be a best friend of dogs.

MPKj which was denounced for alleged animal cruelty to stray dogs in the past will now be champions of canine kindness.

The Council will now ensure that strays are caught, housed and put down humanely.

The euthanasia period may be extended
to a week instead of on the same day that they are caught.

Dogcatchers will be given special training skills and pet owners will be educated on responsible pet ownership.

MPKj's canine unit will also work closely with the veterinary services (DVS) and also with animal welfare NGOs.

CAT Chairman Anthony Thanasayan, animal rescuer Puspa Rani and a representative from SPCA Selangor were at this afternoon's meeting.

MPKj had been accused of allowing stray dogs to starve to death after they have been caught by local dogcatchers.
