The Star: Vet Dept to start rating pet hotels, clinics

By RASHVINJEET BEDI

SUNGAI BULOH: The Veterinary Services Department will start rating establishments that house and deal with animals, such as veterinary clinics and pet hotels.

Department director-general Datuk Dr Abd Aziz Jamaluddin said they would implement the ratings as soon as possible so that people would know the best establishments to send their pets.

He said they would work with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to come up with the standards for these establishments.

"We will give them class A, B and C ratings based on sanitary conditions and cleanliness," he said.

On Sunday, about 300 cats were rescued after they were allegedly starved in a locked pet boarding premises in Damansara Damai and Desa Moccis in Sungai Buloh.

Nine cats were found dead while the others appeared hungry, dirty and sickly.
