Disabled people to be in local councils

KUALA LUMPUR: All local authorities are to appoint disabled people to their planning and development committees.

Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the Cabinet at its meeting on Wednesday approved a proposal to that effect.

"The Cabinet also agreed to a suggestion that local authorities set up an access auditing unit," she said in a statement.

The unit is to increase the accessibility of building and facilities to disabled people, Shahrizat said.
She believed that the two measures would contribute greatly to creating a disabled people-friendly environment. BERNAMA
