Young Boy Mauled To Death By The Family Pet. Who Is To Blame?

Dogs don't bite human beings? Rubbish!

Here's a very sad case when the victim was a young child who was mauled to death by the family's pet dog.

The truth is, children and the elderly are the biggest victims of dog bite cases so much so in one part of the US, last week was dog bite week.

People were educated about the dangers of being bitten by dogs and how they could protect themselves.

Some animal NGOs would like to hide such incidents under the carpet. But pet responsibility involves a multitude of factors - each should be painstakingly examined and considered.

Here is the latest story. Tell us what you think.

The alleged owner of the large dog that police say savagely mauled a four-year old boy to death had trained his animals to be aggressive and called them 'monster dogs,' reports the New York Post.

A neighbour to the Brooklyn family, Robin Parkinson, 56, told the paper Damian 'Dread' Jones would 'hang stuff on trees or the school yard fence – stuffed animals or footballs – just so his dogs could rip the stuff up.

'It was an accident waiting to happen', she said.

'[Mr Jones] could clear the block with them dogs,' Ms Parkinson said. 'He used to punch them in the heads, kick them in the ribs, brutal'.

Neighbours said Mr Jones was rarely at the house where his wife, Saquina "Honey"
Jubeark, 24, and three sons lived. Two other boys, ages five and two, were unharmed by the dog attack.

Police say the mother may face criminal charges after her son Jayelin Graham was mauled to death Friday night.

Jayelin was pronounced dead on arrival at Brookdale University Hospital in Brooklyn after a horrific attack by his family's Cane Corso-mastiff mix, police said.

Police said the boy suffered several severe bite wounds to his head, neck and stomach.
During the attack Friday night, neighbours said they rushed to help after hearing the boy's mother's desperate cries for help - but they were too late.

One man, who told the Post he goes by Jah, said he smashed a window to get inside to the boy, but the dog had already torn the life out of him.
Jah said: 'I screamed move and the dog dropped the kid and went into a defensive position. He was staring at me'.

The boy's mangled body was carried out of the Brownsville apartment by rescue workers to the shock of witnesses at 9:15pm.

One woman told the New York Post: 'That little boy looked like a rag doll. The dog ripped the baby's throat out.'

Two family dogs - one German shepherd and one Cane Corso-mastiff mix - were removed from the home in cages and turned over to officials at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

The Cane Corso mix appeared to be heavily sedated.

Officials said the German shepherd was not involved in the attack. Officials had not yet stated what would be done with the animals at press time.

One witness recalled hearing the mother scream: 'Help! He ate my baby! He ate my baby!' according to the New York Daily News.

Jayelin's 24-year-old mother has been questioned by police.
Sources told the New York Daily News she could face criminal charges.

Neighbours compared the apartment to a small zoo, which was home to two pit bulls, a German shepherd, a parrot, a snake and a rabbit - recently eaten by one of the dogs.

Police said they found animal feces and urine inside, according to CBS News.
Anthony Brown told the New York Daily News the animal was a known menace.
'It was a violent dog. Dangerous. A big dog. The whole block 'is scared of that dog,' he said.

Kenny Rishar, the super of the building, said the dogs belong to the woman's husband, and they were feared by neighbours.

'People were scared of those dogs,' he said. 'The dogs belong to the husband, who is seldom here. This was a tragedy waiting to happen.'

Six youths were also taken into custody as the chaotic scene unfolded, after allegedly attempting to incite a riot in the aftermath of the horrific events. The New York Daily News reports they will face obstruction charges.

A spokesman for the New York Police Department only said several people were arrested at the scene 'for unrelated reasons'.

This story reminds me so much about a recent incident here where another child was believed to be attacked and killed by his pet dog.

I was shocked by some animal groups who quickly went to defend the dog instead of finding out first what really happened.

It's as if these weirdos feel that animals can do no wrong. Thanks Anthony for highlighting to us that such things also take place in oversees countries and is a problem everywhere.

Having a pet is a great responsibility not only to the owner but also to the environment.

This can only come from people who know nothing about dogs. Dogs are ultimately animals. It's the owners who will have to take the responsibility to train them. This man trained his dogs to attack and kill. Hence, he had to see the unfortunate result of his stupidity. Dogs are actually loyal and affectionate creatures and very protective of the family.

Dogs are dangerous! They are not playthings. If you let them free in a jungle, they'll form a pack and stark hunting for prey. This is what happen in Australia with their wild dogs that are known to attack people viciously. Even prey on human when some dare to go out jogging in the area.

Settle for cats to be on the safe side. They are equally cute and harmless too!

It's the owners fault, straight up! The dog was only doing what it was trained to do! Know what you are getting yourself into and know what the frig you are doing before you buy a dog! Know the breed and be responsible! Bottom line! I don't want people to be afraid of my dog,I only want her to protect me when it is absolutely necessary! I own a Cane Corso mastiff and I would never use her as a weapon, which is what the owner of that dog was doing. He should go to jail for a very long time, I feel sorry for the child and then for the dog.
