THE MALAYSIAN ANIMAL-ASSISTED THERAPY FOR THE DISABLED AND ELDERLY ASSOCIATION (PETPOSITIVE) IS AT THIS MINUTE IN JALAN DATO ONN IN KUALA LUMPUR TO MEET MINISTER FOR WOMEN, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DATO SRI SHARIZAT ABDUL JALIL.

Petpositive is here to discuss a number of important issues on disability with the Minister.

Petpositive's chief aim is to get the Minister to pressure all local governments throughout the country to set up a disability committee within the local councils in order to get them to start making their towns and cities friendly to people with disabilities.

"Until that happens, nothing is ever going to change for the handicapped in Malaysia," said Anthony SB Thanasayan, President of Petpositive as well as Councillor for the city of Petaling Jaya (MBPJ).

The other issues that Petpositive will raise with the Minister is to get Parkinson's disease finally recognised as a disability so that people who have the condition will be able to qualify for a disabled identification from the government.

Currently their status is not recognised by the Welfare Department.

Petpositive also wants the Ministry of Special Education to work closely with the Welfare Department on all matters regarding people with learning difficulties and push for the next new disabled senator in Parliament.

Finally, Petpositive also wants to push for an act to protect elderly persons especially when they are abandoned or abused by their children.
