PETPOSITIVE BREAKING NEWS!
DATELINE BANTING SELANGOR:
A dozen disabled Malaysians are expressing their public protest at the way the Kuala Langat District Council (MDKL) culled nine dogs belonging to two lawyer brothers here last Sunday.
Representing Petpositive, the Malaysian Animal-Assisted Therapy for the Disabled and Elderly Association - a national non profit society, the group is meeting the Yang Dipertua of MDKL Abdul Razak bin Jaafar to condemn the Council's "murder" of the nine pedigree dogs that comprise of rottweilers, dalmatians and a boxer.
The canines were forcefully put to sleep by a lethal injection by the Council when they were called in by the police to remove the animals from a farm that was cordoned off to the public following investigations on several murders.
The MDKL claimed that the dogs were dangerous which led them to put the animals down.

"We think this is utter rubbish based on the council's fear and ignorance of dogs in general," said Francis Siva, an adviser to Petpositive who is leading today's protest.
Speaking to PET+BLOGSPOT, Francis a tetraplegic who is also president of the Independent Living and Training Centre in Rawang, Selangor added: "All the animals should have been ceased and re-homed as pet companions to animal lovers who would have gladly accepted them."
"The dogs were all pedigrees and would have been able to find new homes easily as there was a high demand for them. They could also have been retrained to become special companions for the disabled and the elderly."
Francis went on to say that the MDKL overstepped its authority by not involving the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) in its procedure when it went to remove the dogs.
"The DVS is the proper authority to handle such matters and the MDKL was obligated to have involved them.
"Furthermore, Petpositive has learnt that the farm was also in an area that was out of the jurisdiction of the MDKL which means that what the council did was ILLEGAL. The land comes under the purview of the DVS and it was them and them alone who had the right to take action."
A check with the DVS' law also revealed that dogs can only be put down based on the DVS' decision and it is only a DVS veterinarian who can euthanise an animal.
PET+BLOGSPOT has learnt that the MDKL had hired a private dog-catching company to destroy the animals.
Today's protest is being covered by as many as ten media journalists.
