More Disabled Car Parks For PJ From Monday

Sheltered Disabled Car Park In PJ Library
DATELINE: SECTION 52 PETALING JAYA

Residents with disabilities living in PJ can look forward to an increase of disabled-friendly parking in the city next week

Petaling Jaya City Councillor (MBPJ) Anthony SB Thanasayan, together with a representative from the planning and engineering department, spent half the morning yesterday driving around PJ.

Their excursion was to identify suitable spots in the city to add ten disabled-friendly parking lots.

The team managed to find four places. Work to mark out the handicapped-parking will begin on Monday.

The areas include the entrance of the PJ Civic Centre, the Dataran PJ where major city events are held and two locations in Section 52.

The task of locating another seven parking lots will commence on Tuesday. Once identified on the same day, work on the remaining six will commence at once.

The disabled parking that is currently being done will not come with a covering.

MBPJ promised a total of 150 disabled parking spots in PJ in 2008 in which they said a significant number will be covered.

Currently only two car parks come with a shelter to protect the disabled from the elements.

One is located at MBPJ's headquarters and the other in the PJ library building in Old Town.
