KTM Bhd has recorded a written statement from wheelchair-bound Karuppannan Veeramalai, who alleged that a Komuter train driver had assaulted and verbally abused him earlier this month over a parking incident.
Karuppannan met with KTM officials at the central region administration office for commuter services at KL Sentral this afternoon.
He was accompanied by four representatives of Malaysians Against Discrimination of the Disabled (MADD) and Independent Living and Training Centre (ILTC).
KTM commuter services acting general manager Mohd Hider Yusoff Othman said action would be taken against the train driver if he is found guilty.
“There has been no such complaint before, but we have suspended our staff in other cases,” he said.
Central region manager Mat Rusli Mat Noor said that initial checks revealed that the incident had taken place after working hours, at the car park of the Subang Jaya KTM station.
“This is a very personal case between the two of them (the train driver only identified as 'Zul' and complainant),” said Mat Rusli.
Karuppannan has been working as a service contractor at the station for the past 15 years and has claimed that KTM staff have been bullying him over the last three.
In the incident on March 4, Zul is alleged to have kicked Karuppannan during an argument, because the latter's son had double-parked his vehicle and blocked Zul's car.
Anthony Thanasayan of MADD expressed shock that the investigations have yet to be completed by either KTM or the Subang Jaya police, who had received a report on the incident on March 5.
ILTC president Francis Siva said that, if action is not taken, the group will submit a memorandum to the police station and raise the matter with the inspector-general of police.
