MPS DENIES CRUELTY IN POUND - CAT to inspect animal shelter on Wednesday

PETPOSITIVE UPDATE #2 ON MPS DOG POUND:

"The stories of dogs being starved to death at our pound is simply NOT TRUE!" says Dr Razif Zainol Abidin, the director of health and Licensing at the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang (MPS) this afternoon.
This was the reply that was given to our President Anthony SB Thanasayan in a telephone conversation with the gentleman this afternoon.

Thanasayan told PET+BLOGSPOT that Dr Razif went on to explain to him that the MPS had worked very hard to make their pound one of the best in the state.

"I would never be unkind to animals as I myself own a few cats and love them very much," he added, pointing out that cruelty to animals was NOT part of MPS' way of working with animals.

Dr Razif said that the MPS had nothing to hide and pointed out that the reports against the pound may have been created by outsiders who don't understand the full workings of the pound or may not have the right facts.

A meeting has been set for the Canine Advisory Team to visit the pound on Wednesday.

Before that, Thanasayan will also meet with Dr Razif with representatives of the Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Save-A-Stray, an animal welfare organisation that has been rescuing strays from the streets and rehoming them.

Responding to Dr Razif's remarks, Thanasayan has advised dog lovers to remain calm until all the facts of the situation has been fully studied.

"The MPS has expressed its desire to be open about the allegations made about them," he said.

"It is best that we respond to the situation in a matured and measured way rather than to spread any distortions at this time.

"After all, our goal as animals lovers is to help all the dogs in the pound; and not try and jeopardize their well-being in any way."

Meanwhile, a visit to the dog pound by SPCA Inspector Cunera Kimlon has indicated the the pound is clean and that the dogs are not in an immediate danger.

Food and water is available for them though some animals clearly need to be put down because of their poor health, said Cunera.

Thanasayan said he is waiting for a crucial report from MPS Councillor Tuan Gunarajah who is visiting the pound now.

PET+BLOGSPOT will provide details of his findings when it is known.

Have you actually gone to the pound to see the conditions there? Or are you relying on someone else's word?

What reason would animal welfare groups have to lie about conditions if it's not true?

Where did all the starving dogs come from in the pics?

I would love to hear your response to these questions.

You are right, one should not rely on anyone's word but visit the council personally. I did that already.

It is not uncommon for some groups to sensationalise stories in order to make the public to donate to them. Some shamefully do it openly when they are merely spectators. Donors must be very carefully nowadays.

It is common for starving dogs to be picked up from the streets or they could be that way as a result of contracting disease.

Thank you for your questions and for being polite in your email.
