MPK DOG POUND MAKING GOOD PROGRESS

PETPOSITIVE NEWS:

Things are continuing to improve at the dog pound in Klang, Selangor.

The pound received a satisfactory rating by members of Majlis Perbandaran Klang's Canine Advisory Team or CAT when they made a spot-check on Monday.

CAT was pleased to discover that the cages were clean and clear of any foul stench.

Water and food was also available for the dogs; thanks largely to the two dedicated workers in the pound.

The situation improved significantly after more people started coming forward to donate sacks of kibble to the animals that are generally on death-row if no one adopts them.

The Selangor SPCA is now donating cooked food to the pound at least twice a week.

However, this is on a temporary basis. It is hoped that over the weeks, the council will be able to obtain enough funds to provide for the dogs.

The pound itself is designed in such a way where the dogs have proper shelter from the elements. There is also plenty of fresh air ventilation from the outside.

All dogs that are put down are done so only by a veterinarian or a veterinary assistant from the Department of Veterinary Services.

What is most striking is the way the dogs appear to be generally settled down in the pound.

Many of them wag their tails and offer licks to the pound's caretakers when they enter their area.

A media conference is being planned for sometime next week to announce the formation of the new CAT committee.

MPK will also announce some of the positive measures the council will take in their care towards dogs and cats.

Resident associations as well as animal welfare NGOs are expected to be called in later for a dialogue.

Other programmes include hands-on-training on dog care and management for the pound caretakers, training on effective and humane dog-catching methods and many more.
Meanwhile, PET+BLOGSPOT has learnt that there is currently an attempt by one or two quarters to try and deliberately discredit the positive and progressive changes that are taking place in MPK's pound through CAT.

CAT advises all animal lovers to be extremely careful to differentiate disinformation from the facts.

Members of CAT are currently the only animal NGOs that have access to the pound and what is going on with the dogs at the pound.

"Please be careful about pictures that are outdated or information that are taken out of context and mischievously and maliciously posted in blogs," cautions CAT.

The dogs at the MPK dog pound need our help as animal lovers.

The best way is to adopt a canine and take them out of the pound at once.

This can done without any cost as the dogs are being offered by MPK free of charge.

For more information on how you can make a difference in helping the canines at the pound, please contact Mrs Pat Lim, a member of CAT, at 016-656 8997.
