Majlis Perbandaran Klang Creates Local History With Canines Under Their Care

PETPOSITIVE BREAKING NEWS!

LOCAL HISTORY WAS CREATED this morning in the Royal Town of Klang when a brand new committee sat at the local council to deliberate canine issues.

The expert group forming what is now called the Canine Advisory Team (CAT) of the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) will meet regularly to discuss and debate effective strategies on how to deal with dogs within its municipality in more effective and humane ways.

CAT is a collaboration of the local council and NGOs from animal concerns fashioned after the style of MBPJ (Petaling Jaya City Council) CAT committee which was formed two years ago after Pakatan Rakyat came into power in Selangor.

MBPJ Councillor and Chairman of CAT MBPJ Anthony SB Thanasayan was appointed as Chairman of CAT MPK by the Yang DiPertua Mislan Bin Tugiu.

The other members appointed to the committee are Shenaaz Khan from Petpositive, Christine Chin from SPCA Selangor, Jacqueline Tsang from Save-A-Stray and Pat Lim, an individual animal rights rescuer from Klang.

The Department of Veterinary Services is also represented by Dr Thiba Rajoo who offers her professional advise as an animal doctor.

Dr Thiba has served in the Petaling District area which covers Bukit Raja right up to Sungei Buloh for the past two years.

After a full two-hour meeting at the MPK earlier today, CAT visited the dog pound in Klang for an hour.

The Committee went into action straightaway by feeding the dogs (including some strays from outside the pound) with premium food donated by Pat Lim's friend.

The two veterinarians who were present, Dr Thiba and Dr Syed Zulkifly from the Klang district inspected the pound thoroughly to ensure that the animals were kept properly.

SPCA's animal inspector Cunera Kimlon checked on each individual dog. She had to separate a mother dog with her pups that were just born overnight in one of the brand new ten cages which were generously donated by the SPCA.

The SPCA immediately offered to provide food twice a week, starting from next week for three months as a temporary measure to help relieve the situation at the pound.

More things are being planned for the future in MPK's CAT programmes. They include expert guidelines on proper ways to catch canines to education about responsible pet ownership information for all dog owners in Klang.

A press conference will be held soon to inform pet owners of the latest developments.
