Petpositive Looking for a Doggie-Walker in PJ

DATELINE PETALING JAYA:

PETPOSITIVE is looking for a doggie-walker to help an elderly disabled person walk her dog for physical therapy.

Her companion canine is a nine year old female German Shepherd Dog in her home in Section 14 here.

Our member's pet sustained some walking programmes recently and needs to be walked around the house compound several times a week for 30 minutes.

The services of the dog walker will be paid.

Wheelchairs Light Up Faces Of The Elderly

DATELINE PETALING JAYA: 

The agonizing wait for two wheelchairs for a couple of poor elderly folk in Petaling Jaya has come to an end at last!

On Tuesday this week Petaling Jaya City (MBPJ) Councillors Tang Fuie Koh and Anthony SB Thanasayan made an unannounced visit to the homes of two disabled and elderly individuals in Taman Desa Mentari.  

M. Muniammah, 86, and V. Vythilingam, 64, who are members of PETPOSITIVE, were beaming from ear to ear at their shiny new wheelchairs that was presented to them to enhance their mobility within the low-cost flats in which they lived.

Muniammah who is cared for by her elderly daughter and granddaughter who is a single mother, developed serious trouble in walking when she developed wounds on her feet that refuse to get better because of her diabetes.

Because of this she would spend long hours in one position of the house until one of her family members came to shift her to another part of her tiny block. She had no way of getting out of her residence until then.

Vythilingam, on the hand, became paralysed after a vein from his leg was transplanted to his heart through surgery. Ever since then, he has had trouble moving himself around his block unless someone assists him. 

The problems faced by these individuals were spotted by another MBPJ Councillor Selvarajan Rathinam. The matter was then referred to our President who made the disabled elderly duo as members at once.

Thanasayan made a personal visit to the seniors before approaching various sources for help in donating the wheelchairs.            

It was Councillor Tang who finally attended to PETPOSITIVE'S SOS call by offering to buy two wheelchairs for our members, even though the area in which they lived was not under his zone.

"Tang is such a quick worker," Thanasayan told PET+BLOGSPOT recently. 

"He didn't want the elderly couple to wait any longer for their wheelchairs. Within a split-second, we decided to get it done. 

"I got to pick the wheelchairs from a local shop in Section 14 and the next thing we knew, Tang and I were headed on to the flat during lunchtime to make the special delivery ourselves," Thanasayan added.

"These things can't wait," said Tang. "The way their faces lighted up the minute they saw their wheelchairs was 'reward' enough in helping the disabled," he concluded.

As part of PETPOSITIVE's reaching-out programme, we were thrilled that our members were also referred to the social department of MBPJ where follow-up will be taken by the officers who tagged along to ensure that the elderly couple are registered with the Welfare Department and are receiving the proper help from them.

We also introduced them to MBPJ's van service which is available free of charge to the disabled in PJ. They did not realise that the van is able to take them for their medical check-ups.

Later tonight, Muniammah and her granddaughter will be watching a performance by dance doyen Ramli Ibrahim. 

A gift of ten tickets by the Master Dancer himself to PETPOSITIVE will also see a couple of stroke patients in his evening performance.
